Greg Harris joined S4 Inc. in 2006 as a Network Analyst supporting the Air Mobility Command (AMC) at Scott Air Force Base, IL. In this role, he was responsible for developing AMC’s 5-Year roadmap for the unclassified network that supported over 70,000 users. He also wrote a business case analysis on AMC’s network storage issues and made recommendations to leadership on a way ahead to improve efficiencies and lower costs. Mr. Harris’ constant efforts toward improvement led him to his current role as a Senior Vice President at S4. In this capacity, he is responsible for the oversight and growth of S4’s business in Alabama and neighboring regions.
Since joining S4, Mr. Harris has consistently worked to improve the quality and consistency of operations. He played a key role in S4 being ISO 9001 certified in 2007. He has been instrumental in maintaining this certification by focusing on continuous process improvement. Mr. Harris identified the processes needed to ensure compliance, and ensured that deliverables and schedules necessary for inspectors to verify that compliance were accessible to them. He has also helped S4 win several information technology (IT) support type contracts with the Army, Navy and Air Force while emphasizing continuous process improvement with ITIL and other tools.
Previously, Mr. Harris had a distinguished career in the US Air Force serving over 24 years. He led two software organizations in achieving advanced Capability Maturity Model levels. He spent most of his military career in various software development roles serving as a tester, configuration manager and lead developer for Mission Planning software. In 1991, Mr. Harris led a unit that stood up the first Software Quality Assurance office in the Air Force and wrote many of the day-to-day processes that were used to greatly improve software products by emphasizing a repeatable process within stringent configuration management guidelines.
Mr. Harris went on to hold leadership positions as a Software Program Manager for 21 systems valued in excess of $5 billion. He guided a 48-person communications flight outside of Iraq prior to 9/11 and received numerous annual and quarterly awards during his military service. Mr. Harris has managed hundreds of software personnel in various organizations including a matrix environment, and used earned value management and tools such as Microsoft Project to ensure all contracts under his purview were delivered on time and within budget. He mentored many project managers to ensure compliance with quality assurance guidelines.
Mr. Harris is a certified Project Management Professional and holds ITIL and CompTIA Security + certifications. He earned his bachelor degree in Finance from Troy University graduating Summa Cum Laude, as well as an MBA with emphasis on Organizational Development from Troy University. Mr. Harris recently completed a Masters of Arts in IT Management from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2011, Mr. Harris was selected as the Armed Forces Communication-Engineering Association (AFCEA) member of the year from the 500-person Scott AFB/St. Louis chapter.
